Teaching Buddhist Monk Program

Nepal is a birth place of Buddha and Buddhism. Though, predominantly a Hindu country, Nepal has a significant Buddhist influence, beautiful monasteries all over Nepal shows the popularity of Buddhism in Nepal. In Kathmandu, Buddhism is also practiced by Tibetan people who are in exile in Nepal. Volunteers interested to work in a Buddhist monastery mostly teach English education to monks and immerse themselves in Buddhist culture. This is a perfect project if you are interested in Buddhism and the life of Buddhist monks.
What skills do I need ?

Though no teaching experience or skill is needed, volunteers joining the Buddhist monk teaching programs in Nepal should have good English both written and verbal. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient. Volunteers with an interest in the lifestyle of Buddhist monks will enjoy this program.

What are my responsibilities ?

As a volunteer in Real Nepal Monk teaching project, you will primarily work as English instructors in the schools of Tibetan Children's Village. You will teach English to Tibetan kids for 3-4 hours a day. In addition to English teaching, volunteers will assist in other school extra curricular activities and administration. In the evening, you can organize games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities.

Morning and late evening time is free. If you love Buddhism, this is the perfect time to join meditation, rituals, prays, and songs with the Buddhist monks. This project gives perfect opportunities to immerse in Buddhist religion and lifestyle.

Where do I live and eat ?

During volunteering in the Buddhist monastery, volunteers will stay in a hostel (mostly located inside the compound of the temple school). This hostel also acts as home for monks and kids. Real Nepal arranges a separate room and shared bath for volunteers. If you are highly interested in staying on with a host family, that can also be arranged. You can find the details of arrangements for room/food in the placement sheets provided you. Real Nepal Kathmandu office is within 3 miles distance of this project so our local staff will visit you every 2 weeks. In your free time, you are always welcome to visit our office.
